Our Story

Built for people
who want to
know before.

OneSelf was not created to disrupt healthcare. It was created because a different relationship with health — one built on understanding rather than reaction — needed to exist.

The problem we saw

More data than ever.
Less understanding
than we need.

We are living through the most data-rich era in the history of human health. Wearables track our every heartbeat. Blood panels are more comprehensive than they have ever been. Genomic sequencing costs less than a dinner out.

And yet most people still receive a PDF of results with reference ranges they cannot interpret, a wearable score they cannot contextualise, and a reassurance from a five-minute appointment that everything is "fine."

Data without understanding is noise. A number without context is not knowledge. Reassurance without basis is not wellbeing. The gap between the data that exists and the understanding people actually have — that is the problem OneSelf was built to close.

What we hear
"My bloods came back fine — but I don't feel fine."
The most common thing people say when they first find OneSelf. Results within range. Energy not.
"I track everything. I just don't know what any of it means together."
Wearable data, supplement stacks, sleep scores — without the interpretation layer, data is just more noise.
"I've been trying to figure this out for years — alone."
Capable, paying-attention people. Doing the work without the tools to read it in context.
Why OneSelf exists

Data without understanding
is noise. Action without
responsibility is unsafe.

The tools to understand human biology at an individual level had arrived — blood analysis, genomics, microbiome profiling, continuous wearable monitoring. The raw signal capacity was there. What was missing was a way to read those signals together, in context, over time, and return something a person could actually understand and use.

The default response to this new data was not understanding. It was more apps, more dashboards, more numbers — without the interpretation layer that makes numbers meaningful. Or worse: automated recommendations served without any human review of what they were recommending, to whom, and why.

"Data without understanding is noise. Action without responsibility is unsafe."

OneSelf was built around two principles. First: understanding has to come before action. Second: when action is appropriate, a qualified practitioner carries the responsibility for it. Intelligence that operates without human accountability is not a service — it is a liability. These are not compromise positions. They are the design of OneSelf.

Understanding
Before action, before optimisation, before any recommendation — understanding comes first. It is the foundation everything else is built on.
Accountability
Intelligence without accountability is just noise. Every piece of guidance at Act tier has been reviewed by a qualified practitioner before it reaches you.
Honesty
We are transparent about what signals can and cannot tell you. We acknowledge where evidence is still emerging. We do not overclaim.
Restraint
OneSelf does less than it could, deliberately. Doing more without the right foundation is how health platforms lose the trust they need most.
The person we built for

Curious, capable — and
connecting the dots
alone.

OneSelf is not designed for emergency care, diagnosis or treatment. It is designed for people seeking understanding earlier — before uncertainty becomes a bigger problem. Whether they have an existing health picture or are starting from curiosity alone, they share the same goal: a clearer view of their own biology.

These are paying-attention people — doing their own research, already tracking something, already asking the questions their appointments don't have time to answer. OneSelf was built to give them the tools to read what they're finding in context.

The OneSelf member — a portrait
They feel persistently tired but have been told their bloods are "fine" — and they suspect that's because no one is reading the signals together.
They track their sleep on a wearable, monitor their steps, take their supplements — but they cannot tell if any of it is working, or why.
They have read enough to know that hormones, cortisol, gut health and genetics all interact — but not enough to know what that means for them specifically.
They are not looking for a diagnosis. They are looking for a clearer picture — and someone qualified to help them understand it.
They want to understand their biology before it becomes urgent. Not after something goes wrong. Before.
What we believe

The principles that
shaped everything.

These are the decisions made at every point where we had to choose between faster and correct, simpler and honest, more profitable and trustworthy.

01
Understanding before action
We will not offer recommendations to someone who does not yet understand their own biology. The Explore and Understand tiers exist because they are necessary — not because they are good onboarding funnels.
02
Signals read together
A single marker in isolation rarely tells you much. The meaning lives in the relationship between signals — blood, DNA, microbiome, wearable, self-reported. Reading them together is the only honest way to build a picture.
03
Practitioners govern guidance
OneSelf Intelligence™ identifies patterns. Qualified practitioners decide what they mean before any guidance reaches a member. This is not a liability position. It is the only responsible way to translate biological signals into action.
04
Honesty about limits
We are transparent about what the evidence supports and where it is still emerging. We acknowledge when a signal is uncertain. A platform that shows confidence it has not earned does not create understanding — it creates false certainty.
05
Your data belongs to you
Your signal data is yours. You can download it, share it with your own GP, and take it with you if you leave. OneSelf is here to help you understand your biology — not to hold it hostage.
06
Know before
The goal is not to treat illness. It is to understand biology before illness becomes the only option. "Know before" is not a tagline. It is the entire reason OneSelf was built.

The enemy is not illness. It is uncertainty. The moment someone understands their own biology — truly understands it — they are no longer guessing. And a person who is not guessing is already in a better position than most.

The future

Building the personal health
understanding category.

OneSelf is not trying to own health data. It is not trying to replace clinical medicine. It is trying to create something that does not yet properly exist: a platform where curious, capable people can build a genuine understanding of their own biology — with the signals, the intelligence and the human expertise to support them.

We call this category personal health understanding. We believe it will matter more in the next decade than it has in the last fifty years of health technology — because data capacity has finally outrun interpretation capacity, and someone has to build the bridge.

Now
The signal platform. Blood biomarkers, DNA, microbiome, wearables and self-reported context — read together through OneSelf Intelligence™, practitioner-reviewed at Act tier.
Near term
Deeper longitudinal tracking. A signal picture that builds over years, not just months — so that slow biological trends become visible before they become problems.
Further out
The personal health understanding standard. A model — for individuals, organisations and eventually health systems — where understanding precedes action as the default, not the exception.
